Alabama was dealt a blow in its hunt for a quarterback in the Class of 2018 as Saraland (Ala.) High School QB Jack West told SEC Country that he has committed to Stanford over Alabama.
West, a 4-star prospect and the nation’s No. 8 pro-style QB in 2018, grew up an Alabama fan but was enamored with Stanford’s academics and what the school has to offer him for a future in politics.
“Stanford — its degree is second to none,” West told SEC Country a few months ago. “You aren’t going to find many better schools in the world. You’d be able to make a lot of contacts at that school. A degree from there would definitely help you in politics.”
Alabama does have two quarterback commitments in the Class of 2017 in 4-stars Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. Tagovailoa won the Elite 11 MVP trophy, which is given to the top quarterback at The Opening, this past weekend.
For the 2018 class, look for Alabama to now focus its attention on 4-star Allan Walters (Paramus, N.J.) and 4-star Jalen Mayden (Sachse, Texas). Mayden is the brother of Alabama freshman cornerback Jared Mayden.
