We won’t get the first College Football Playoff rankings until Nov. 1. So much can change from now until then, but one team currently looks like it’s doing better than the rest.
CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm said Ohio State would be No. 1 if the CFP rankings would be out this week — not Alabama. Although the Crimson Tide are ranked No. 1 in the AP and Coaches Poll, the Buckeyes aren’t very far behind at No. 2.
Palm tried to think like the CFP selection committee would, taking into account strength of schedule, dominance, etc.

The difference between Alabama and Ohio State to this point is that Ole Miss put a scare into the Tide.

- Ohio State
That’s two ACC teams at Nos. 3-4, probably due to the thrilling 42-36 game this past Saturday in Clemson, when Louisville and the Tigers looked like two of the best teams in the country.
Texas A&M is the next SEC team to appear, falling just outside of the College Football Playoff at No. 6, with Tennessee right behind the Aggies at No. 7. Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia and Florida round out the SEC teams in the top 25.
