One of Clemson’s best players will not return to Monday night’s national championship game.
It was unclear whether or not Mackensie Alexander would play in tonight’s contest while dealing with a right hamstring injury. The Clemson defensive back started for the Tigers, but left the field in the second quarter after injuring his other hamstring while attempting to tackle Alabama running back Derrick Henry.
Alexander was seen gingerly walking to the Clemson locker room before halftime with the aide of two Clemson trainers. The redshirt sophomore is one of the Tigers’ best defensive players, and was a coaches First-Team All-ACC selection this season.
