Colin Cowherd has weighed in on Alabama’s victory against Georgia in the National Championship Game, and he had huge praise for Nick Saban.
On Tuesday, the FOX Sports analyst broke down Alabama’s 26-23 overtime victory against Georgia. As part of Cowherd’s analysis, he mentioned that he thought it was Saban’s “best coaching effort of all-time.” Cowherd also said “great coaches” are able to overcome difficult obstacles, and he said Saban staged a clinic in that area with Alabama facing so much adversity.
“I thought it was his best coaching effort of all-time,” Cowherd said. “I’ve watched every national championship for Alabama. Sometimes, they just have the better team. Last night was world-class coaching. … Great coaches win when everything goes wrong.”
Cowherd mentioned eight things that went wrong for Alabama in the game. (Watch the clip below to hear his full thought.) But Cowherd makes a great point about Saban’s coaching prowess in the game.
After all, how many coaches would have made the move to freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the second half? How many would have been bold enough to pivot from an experienced signal caller in Jalen Hurts, who led the Crimson Tide to the National Championship Game last season as well?
Saban shined in the second half of the Crimson Tide’s thrilling victory. He showed why he’s one of the best coaches — if not the best — college football has ever seen.
