TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama is the only team to make the College Football Playoff in the first two years of its existence. The Crimson Tide are in the driver’s seat to make it three consecutive appearances this year.
The College Football Playoff selection committee released its first rankings Tuesday. At the end of the season, the four top-ranked teams in the CFP rankings complete the playoff field.
Where Alabama is ranked
As expected, Alabama (8-0, 5-0 SEC) checked in at No. 1 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday.
Clemson, Michigan and Texas A&M rounded out the top-4.
What it means
Alabama’s path to the Playoff is clear: win and you’re in. Alabama needs to take care of LSU this week, Auburn at the end of the regular season (Nov. 26) and whichever team limps to Atlanta out of the SEC East.
LSU is No. 13 in the initial rankings while Auburn was slotted at No. 9.
Alabama travels to Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday for a date with LSU. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
