Dabo Swinney is choosing his present over his past.
On Thursday, the Clemson coach made his rooting interest known for the monster season opener between Alabama and Florida State on Sept. 2 in Atlanta.
Yes, he’s pulling for fellow ACC school Florida State.
As relayed by The State’s Matt Connolly on Thursday, Swinney said he’ll be “pulling for the Noles” when Florida State takes on Alabama. It’s an interesting choice, given that Swinney was a wide receiver for the Crimson Tide from 1990-92 and continues to have deep Alabama connections.
Dabo Swinney on if he's pulling for his alma mater Alabama or conference foe FSU in the opener "I'm pulling for the Noles."

Swinney’s tie to Alabama makes the pick fun, but it’s not much of a surprise. He was speaking at ACC Media Days, so what do you expect him to say? There’s no way he would have dropped a “Roll Tide” in that setting.
Of course, Swinney guided Clemson to a national championship by beating Alabama in January. The Alabama-Florida State showdown will be fun.
