The College Football Playoff national championship game is here.
Fans have been waiting all season for this Monday night, and a champion will be crowned following 60 minutes of football between No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Alabama. The matchup has been dissected all week long, and both the College GameDay and SEC Nation crew took their last crack at predicting the contest prior to kickoff in Glendale, Ariz.
Here’s a look at their picks:
Desmond Howard: Alabama
“Defense wins championships. Too many question marks on that side of the ball for the Tigers. I’m going with Alabama.”
Urban Meyer (Guest picker): Alabama
“Tight, low-scoring game. I’m going with ‘Bama.”
Lee Corso: Clemson
“I picked against Clemson twice this year and lost both times. But listen to this, I picked against Alabama three national title games and lost all three. I’m 0-5 so common sense tells me I have to go with the Tide, seven-point favorites. I don’t do well with common sense.”
Tim Tebow: Alabama
“I’m going Alabama 27-20. I think it’s a close game. I think Deshaun Watson and the scheme and the up-tempo style for Clemson keeps them in it and gives them a chance… I think (determination) is what gets it done in the fourth quarter for Alabama.”
Macus Spears: Alabama
“Alabama to me is a better football team. If they execute offensively and don’t turn the football over, they should handle this game superbly. I’m going Alabama 31, Clemson 17. I do think Deshaun Watson is able to get Clemson in the end zone a couple of times.”
Greg McElroy: Alabama
“The more physical team is always the champion. Bama wins it 35-17 going away.”
