ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has big-time praise for Reuben Foster.
The draft guru appeared on The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday to speak about a number of topics related to the 2017 NFL Draft. As part of the discussion, Kiper was asked about Foster’s potential. Kiper went on to say that Foster is the best inside linebacker Alabama has produced.
“To me, he’s the best inside linebacker Alabama has ever produced, and they’ve produced some really good ones like C.J. Mosley, remember Rolando McClain and (Dont’a) Hightower, and that list goes on and on,” Kiper said on the show. “I think you look at Reuben Foster with his ability to get to the sideline, to get to the flanks, be a sideline-to-sideline defender with his speed, be in coverage getting the job done, he can get after the quarterback — I have him No. 4 right now on the Big Board, Paul. He got pushed down to No. 11 (overall in the NFL Draft), because hey, you’ve got to go with need, you need to find a team that needs an inside linebacker like Foster. I went with Foster to New Orleans for that reason. But I think he’s a great bargain at that point.”
That’s impressive praise coming from Kiper, one of the most respected voices when it comes to NFL Draft analysis. Foster asserted himself as one of the most destructive forces on Alabama’s defense this past season. The linebacker closed with a team-high 115 tackles with 13 tackles for loss and five sacks.
It’s interesting to hear Kiper holds Foster in higher regard than other former Alabama standouts at the position such as Mosley, McClain and Hightower.
It will be fascinating to follow Foster’s NFL career.
