Former Alabama wide receiver Christion Jones has signed a contract with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, the team announced Wednesday.
Jones played for the Miami Dolphins last year but did not appear in any games.
He had a solid career at Alabama, totaling 1,030 career receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He made more of a name for himself as a punt returner, returning two punts for a touchdown in 2013. He was second in the SEC in punt return yards in 2013.
His speed on special teams made him valuable even if he never quite emerged as a go-to receiver for the Crimson Tide in his four years.
That obviously has some value. The Dolphins only released Jones on May 2, so he caught on quickly with another team and found a new home in the CFL. Injuries slowed Jones down in his first year as a pro.
With the CFL season starting in June, this could be a chance for the previously undrafted receiver to begin making a name for himself like he did on special teams for the Crimson Tide.
