Former Alabama star defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick was sidelined from the Cincinnati Bengals’ first organized team activities after breaking his hand in what he described as a “freak accident.”
According to Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Kirpatrick was present for the OTA session, but had a cast on his right hand. Kirkpatrick did not provide any specifics on how he hurt his hand. There is no firm timetable for his return, but he indicated he’d be back on the field in a few weeks, and fully healthy for the start of training camp.
The 27-year-old Kirkpatrick is coming off another strong season, after being drafted with the 17th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Last season, Kirkpatrick had 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, and 35 tackles. For his career he has 9 interceptions (including two returned for TDs), and 38 PDs.
He signed a 5-year, $52.5 million contract extension in the offseason.
