After redshirting his first season, Smith played in just two games over the past two seasons, totaling 2 tackles. He was a 4-star prospect entering college, coming from Airline High School in Bossier City, La. He chose Alabama over Mississippi State and Texas.
Now, Smith is leaving the SEC for the Big Ten, and perhaps more playing time will come when he joins the Golden Gophers. Smith is listed at 6-foot-2, 309 pounds.
