Glen Coffee is back in Tuscaloosa. The former Alabama running back has joined the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff as a student assistant, according to 247sports and as first reported by The Tuscaloosa News.
Coffee played three seasons for the Tide from 2005-08, rushing for 2,107 yards and 14 touchdowns. His best year came in 2008 when he amassed 1,383 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground as a junior.
Coffee was drafted in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played one professional season, rushing for 226 yards and a touchdown. After that season, he left the 49ers.
In 2013, Coffee joined the U.S. Army to become a paratrooper. The 30-year-old attempted an NFL comeback earlier this year, but he’ll instead return to Alabama to work with the Tide’s running backs.
