Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones went viral on Wednesday for losing a $100,000 earring while on a jet ski.
A dive team searched for the former Alabama star’s earring, but was not able to locate it in Lake Lanier, Ga. Jones took a moment on Saturday to set the record straight on the story, specifically about him hiring a dive team.
“I didn’t hire anyone like a dive team. I did not do that,” Jones said, per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter. “I was fine. I didn’t get thrown off of anything. I jumped off the jet ski, so that’s cleared up…Football, training camp’s going well.”
From the video, it appears that Jones was able to have some fun with the incident, even though it became one of the bigger NFL stories on Wednesday afternoon. It’s easy to laugh when the precaution is taken to have an item like that insured.
His misfortune went viral because of something in sports known as, July. NFL training camps don’t start until the very end of the month, the playoff race hasn’t fully heated up in Major League Baseball and the NBA is nearly four months from starting its regular season.
In the meanwhile, a story about the one of the best players in the NFL losing something worth $100,000 is going to make news.
