What’s Jim Mora Jr. up to after being fired by UCLA at the end of the 2017 football season? He’s discussing the merits of Alabama playing against an NFL team with FOX Sports personality Colin Cowherd, of course.
During a Monday appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on FS1, Mora correctly predicted that the Crimson Tide would come out on top in the College Football Playoff national title game on Monday evening.
But he didn’t just stop there.
“They’re special. They’re different,” Mora said of Alabama. “I used to say that I didn’t think that a team like Alabama could ever compete in the NFL, and now I’m not sure so sure that they might not be able to hold their own for a little while against that team that just had a party, or a parade, or whatever they had.”
Mora, of course, was referring to the Cleveland Browns, who just put the bow on a “perfect” 0-16 season in the NFL’s AFC North.
While fans have debated for years whether Nick Saban’s college squad could hang with one of the worst teams in the NFL, that notion usually is shot down pretty authoritatively when a football coach or executive is asked to use their imagination to project an outcome.
So while Mora’s comment certainly isn’t a claim that Alabama could win the game, it is one of the more optimistic opinions on record in this longstanding internet debate. Of course, there’s no real reason to get worked up over Mora’s take because there’s a 0.0001 percent chance that an NFL team puts its reputation on the line in a game against a team like Alabama. Exhibition or not. Still, it’s fun to think about as the off-season approaches.
