Kirk Herbstreit had strong words for someone who doubted the analyst’s objectivity Sunday.
Two days ago, the noted ESPN commentator walked off the set in surprise after the College Football Playoff selection committee chose Alabama over Ohio State as its No. 4 team. The choice sets up a delicious matchup between the Crimson Tide and Clemson in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
By reading the sequence of tweets below, you can see what made Herbstreit upset. In the last one, he defended Alabama’s place in the College Football Playoff and fired back at the Twitter user by calling him a “bozo.”

Out of shock the committee did the right thing bozo. I had spent the entire morning saying I thought Bama should be #4 but thought the committee would put OSU 4 to be safe and PC. I walked off the set shocked by what I saw. They did the right thing. https://t.co/KJL1p9GxpA

It’s clear Herbstreit, a former Buckeyes quarterback, believes the College Football Playoff committee did the right thing by choosing Alabama over Ohio State. His explanation that he was surprised the committee made the choice makes sense, given that some assumed the group would reward the Buckeyes for winning the Big Ten title by defeating previously unbeaten Wisconsin last Saturday.
This is another example of Herbstreit’s intense passion on Twitter. Criticize him at your own risk, people.
