Two of college sports’ best coaches — Alabama football’s Nick Saban and Kentucky basketball’s John Calipari — have been the subjects of professional job rumors over the past week.
Calipari vehemently denied interest, while Saban has displayed the proverbial “NO” sign that has been hanging around his neck since leaving the NFL in 2007.
Monday, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit backed up the Crimson Tide coach.
“His next stop will be on the College Gameday set,” Herbstreit said on The Dan Patrick Show (via Andrew Perloff).
Saban, 64, has spent plenty of time as a Gameday guest analyst, making a potential post-retirement transition to television seem a likely option.
But don’t expect those NFL rumors (or Texas rumors, for that matter) to die until he puts away his clipboard for good.
