TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama basketball held its annual awards banquet on Thursday night inside Coleman Coliseum.
It was both a celebration of Avery Johnson’s first year in Tuscaloosa as well as a look back at the team that overachieved during the 2015-16 season.
During his time at the podium, Johnson reflected on how far that squad came throughout the season en route to earning multiple wins vs. Top 25 teams as well as a victory in the SEC tournament for the first time since 2013.
Alabama athletic director Bill Battle also took the stage and praised Johnson and the team for their accomplishments. Awards were handed out and the seniors, players’ families, the coaching staff and all of the support staff were recognized.
Here’s a list of the awards:
Outstanding freshman: Donta Hall
Most Improved: Arthur Edwards
Outstanding Defensive Player: Riley Norris
Outstanding Offensive Player: Retin Obasohan
Coach Avery Award: Lawson Schaffer
Johnson and Alabama’s staff also recognized Obasohan, center Jimmie Taylor and walk-on Christian Clark for their academic achievements. Obasohan and Edwards were mentioned as two players who showed an outstanding commitment to community service.
To close out the ceremony, the entire team was brought up as Johnson handed out plaques and posed for pictures.
