Alabama coach Nick Saban isn’t exactly known best for his big, warm heart, but he seems to be more emotionally invested in the players he recruits than some might give him credit for these days.
Saban probably never meant for his simple act of kindness to the mother of one of his players to go public, but it did this week and it revealed a softer side of the architect of the Alabama dynasty.
Saban and his wife, Terry, sent flowers to the mother of walk-on punter Mike Bernier. It was Sonja Bernier’s birthday and she is also in the midst of a battle with Stage IV breast cancer.

Saban invited Mike Bernier to walk-on this season at Alabama after he spent the 2015 season on scholarship at Eastern Illinois. He returned to Alabama following last season to be closer to home and help his mom in her fight against the disease.
