It was a throwaway question at the end of Nick Saban’s Wednesday night press conference: What does Homecoming mean to him?
This week is Alabama’s Homecoming game against Arkansas, and the coach began waxing poetic about “tradition” and other generic talking points.
Then he broached the topic of school dances and romance, and his lengthy response suddenly became personal.
“I didn’t have much luck in high school,” he said. “And ended up picking wrong a few times. Homecoming and Prom. Alright? And it still haunts me to this day.”
After a long pause, he added the following about his wife: “Miss Terry’s in Florida, so maybe she won’t hear that.”
