Nick Saban’s players were definitely watching the College Football Playoff rankings show on Tuesday night, but the coach — unsurprisingly — was not.
“I really didn’t see ’em,” he said during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference.
In a somewhat shocking move, the committee ranked Alabama No. 4, ahead of eight undefeated teams.
That wasn’t enough to get Saban excited.
“It doesn’t mean anything, though, right now,” he said. “Because it only matters where you are at the end. So it doesn’t even matter right now. I don’t even know why they do ’em.”
Alabama opened at No. 6 last year before climbing to No. 1 by December. The Crimson Tide lost to No. 4 Ohio State in the national semifinal.
They host No. 2 LSU on Saturday night (8 p.m. ET, CBS).
