Alabama football coach Nick Saban released a statement Saturday following the arrest of defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand.
Hand was arrested early Saturday on a charge of driving under the influence.
“This type of behavior is not acceptable and we are disappointed in Da’Shawn’s actions,” Saban said in a statement. “We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward, so better choices and decisions can be made in the future.”
Heading into his senior for the Crimson Tide, Hand has tallied 44 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 7 sacks.
Hand was once the No. 1 player in the country throughout the 2014 recruiting cycle, but when he showed up to Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide had multiple defensive linemen ahead of him.
There was A’Shawn Robinson, Jarran Reed, Jonathan Allen and Dalvin Tomlinson, to name a few. Those guys are all gone, and Hand is a lock to be a starter at this point. He’s one of Alabama’s most experienced defensive linemen, along with junior Da’Ron Payne.
When given the opportunity, Hand has performed well.
