FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Nick Saban experienced what Arkansas center Frank Ragnow is currently going through.
Ragnow’s father, Jon, died of a heart attack one week ago. Ragnow flew home to Victoria, Minn., last Saturday evening and stayed with his family until Thursday.
Saban’s father, Nick Sr., died when Saban was in college at Kent State.
Saban made a point to find Ragnow and took a few moments to speak with him following Alabama’s 49-30 victory over Arkansas.
Saban said it was a personal thing for him.
“I lost my father when I was in my first year of graduate school,” Saban said. “He’s a fine young man and player. For him to have to go through that, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I wanted to tell him that, and try to encourage him to some kind of way embrace the good memories and the good times that he had with his father because that’ll be something that he can keep with him forever.”
