Nick Saban knows something about what it takes to succeed in the NFL.
Many of his former players have gone on to be selected in the NFL draft, and the Alabama coach was on hand Thursday in Arlington, Texas, for the latest spectacle. He spent some time with the ESPN College GameDay crew, and at one point in the conversation, Saban discussed which trait players show in college that leads to NFL success.
“I think it’s the guys that have the maturity to be responsible for their own self-determination,” Saban said via Bama OnLine’s Charlie Potter. “They can make the kind of choices and decisions on their own without structure, without somebody else making them do those things that are going to help them sort of reach their full potential and continue to grow and develop.”
That’s a smart observation from Saban, who has seen many of his former players star at the next level.
Frankly, so much about a player’s level of success in the NFL depends on the situation that player is presented within a franchise. Still, an ability to show determination and be self-motivated are key things for anyone hoping to enjoy a lengthy professional career.
The 2018 NFL Draft runs from Thursday to Saturday.
