Ohio State and Alabama, in some minds, are the top two teams in the country.
So, who would have the upper hand if they met right now? SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum and Marcus Spears say Alabama — one in a close game, one not as close.
“Alabama, and I don’t think it would be by much because I really believe Ohio State, right now, is the only school out there that comes close to Alabama,” Finebaum said Monday on The Paul Finebaum Show. “Urban Meyer can match Nick Saban, we saw that two years ago, and I think it would be a great game. But I’d take Alabama.”
Ohio State upset Alabama in the 2014 College Football Playoff semifinal 42-35 as an 8-point underdog.
The Crimson Tide are the consensus No. 1 in the nation, having dismantled opponents by an average of 30 ppg.
“I don’t want to sound like an SEC homer, but looking at Alabama, there’s not a team close in my opinion,” Spears said. “When you look at this football team, they’re complete. And when you get beyond the field, you look at coaching. Alabama just has too many chips right now.”
