Alabama LB Tim Williams was arrested early Thursday morning on a misdemeanor gun possession charge, and new details have emerged about the arrest.
According to the report from the University of Alabama Police Department, obtained by the Tuscaloosa News’ Stephanie Taylor, officers initially approached Williams’ parked car because they smelled burning marijuana. When the officers searched the vehicle, they found a bag of marijuana in the center console and a pistol under the driver’s seat.
The report said Williams’ friend in the car, Tykheem Dunaway, told the police that the marijuana belonged to a friend named “Brandon Chicken.” Williams did not face any charges related to the marijuana.
Williams was arrested on charges of carrying the pistol, which was his, without a permit. He told police that when he bought the gun, the store gave him a temporary permit, but that he did not have the permit with him.
