KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Someone forgot to tell Tennessee to show up for the big game.
No. 1 Alabama pounded No. 9 Tennessee 49-10 in front of 102,455 fans on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.
Hurts runs wild
Alabama’s passing game struggled at times, but freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts made up for it with his legs.
Hurts ran for a career-high 3 touchdowns and racked up 132 rushing yards to lead Alabama’s ground game.
Hurts broke long runs and ran for tough yardage between the tackles. There were questions about how much Alabama would run Hurts the rest of the season after Blake Barnett left the team.
Those concerns have been put to rest as Alabama plans to take full advantage of Hurts’ skillset.
Run game strong
Alabama pounded Tennessee on the ground all afternoon, racking up 438 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Alabama had three players rush for more than 90 yards. Jalen Hurts and Bo Scarbrough both topped 100 yards.
It’s the most dominant rushing performance Alabama has had all season. If the Tide can build on this and clean up the passing game, this offense has a chance to become unstoppable.
Alabama scored 10 non-offensive touchdowns all of last season. The Crimson Tide matched that mark on Saturday on Ronnie Harrison’s 58-yard pick-6. Alabama has now scored 8 defensive touchdowns this year. That’s insane.
Seven of Alabama’s 11 defensive starters have scored a touchdown this season.
Alabama later broke the record on Eddie Jackson’s 79-yard punt return. Jackson’s score gave Alabama its 11th non-offensive touchdown of the year, which is the most in a season during the Nick Saban era at Alabama. The score was Jackson’s second punt return touchdown and third overall TD of the season.

The win sets up another top-10 showdown for Alabama, as the Crimson Tide (7-0, 4-0 SEC) will host Texas A&M (6-0, 4-0 SEC) next Saturday. The Aggies are coming off a bye week.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The game could decide the SEC West champion.
