TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama basketball downed Coastal Carolina 70-53 in its season opener on Friday night.
The Crimson Tide (1-0) followed up two big days of recruiting with a victory in front of a nice crowd in Coleman Coliseum.
Player of the game
We’re going with Dazon Ingram here. Ingram probably didn’t have the best game, but it was good to see him on the court after nearly a year off.
Ingram hadn’t played in a regular season game since last December when he injured his foot.
The redshirt freshman scored 11 points, dished 5 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds. The best part of his night was shooting 3-for-3 from behind the arc. If Ingram can consistently make 3-pointers for Alabama, he’s going to be tough to stop.
Stat line of the game
Guard Corban Collins and forward Riley Norris powered Alabama’s offense for much of the night.
Collins finished with a team-high 15 points to go with 3 assists. Norris shot 60 percent (3-of-5) from 3-point range and scored 14 points.
Turning point vs. Coastal Carolina
Alabama trailed 33-27 at halftime, but the Crimson Tide ripped off a 14-0 run early in the second half to take the lead. Center Jimmie Taylor sparked the spurt with a 3-point play.
The run spanned nearly five minutes as the Crimson Tide turned up the defensive pressure to take Coastal Carolina out of rhythm. A nice back cut and layup from forward Riley Norris gave Alabama the lead with 16:34 left in the game.

Alabama never let go of the lead from there.
Memphis transfer forward Nick King played 4 minutes in his Alabama debut and did not score.
