Oh, the drama associated with being a top-shelf recruit. It appears as though Najee Harris may be coming to Alabama this weekend after all.
After a report that former 5-star Alabama commit Najee Harris would be returning home to California after the U.S. Army All-American Bowl instead of Tuscaloosa surfaced on Thursday, it now is being reported by 247Sports’ Barton Simmons that Harris has changed his plans.
Per a U.S. Army All-American Bowl source who spoke with Simmons, the nation’s top running back has requested a flight change. His flight plans for a departure from San Antonio, Texas were originally scheduled for a return home to Oakland, Calif. He now is believed to be planning to land in Birmingham, Ala., which presumably means nearby Tuscaloosa could be his final destination in the aftermath of Saturday’s all-star game.
According to Simmons, part of the perks of playing at the bowl include a plane ticket out of San Antonio to the destination of a recruit’s choice. Those destinations can reportedly be changed.
SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner reported on Wednesday that Harris planned to leave the bowl game with QB Tua Tagovailoa, a fellow Alabama commitment, and head for Tuscaloosa.
Assuming that Harris does not change his mind in the next couple of days, the drama surrounding his recruitment may be over. Michigan was considered to be making a late surge for the prized prospect.
