Alabama will face an opponent it’s never see before during the 2019 season. The Crimson Tide have added the New Mexico State Aggies to their 2019 football schedule according to FBSchedules.com.
The Crimson Tide will host the Aggies at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Sept. 7, 2019, which is the second game of the season and the home opener for the defending SEC champions. Alabama will open up the season against Duke at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That stadium will open this fall.
According to a copy of the contract obtained from New Mexico State University’s public records, the Aggies will receive $1.7 million guaranteed for the game.
New Mexico State is a member of the Sun Belt Conference, but 2017 will be the school’s final season in the conference. In 2018, the Aggies will become an FBS Independent. Alabama will also play another Sun Belt team in Louisiana-Lafayette in 2018.
Last season, New Mexico State went 3-9, including 2-6 in the Sun Belt. The Aggies’ only conference victories came against Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas State.
Three wins actually is a lot for the Aggies. They also won three in 2015, but only two in each of the previous two seasons and just one in 2012. Since the 2012 season, New Mexico State has won 11 games while Alabama has won at least 11 games every single season.
With this game now in the schedule, Alabama only has one open date left in 2019. During the fourth week of the season, the Crimson Tide will host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Sept. 21. The times of all three of these games will be announced. Based on previous seasons, the fourth-and-final nonconference opponent for Alabama will likely be an FCS opponent.
Also based on the SEC scheduling rotation, Alabama will play Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee at home, and face Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and South Carolina on the road in 2019.
