Da’Shawn Hand reportedly wasn’t moving when he was arrested Saturday.
As reported by The Tuscaloosa News’ Aaron Suttles on Monday, the Alabama defensive lineman was asleep in his parked car at the time of his arrest for driving under the influence. Hand was held on a $1,000 bond.
Per Suttles’ report, Hand was found to be in “constructive possession” of the vehicle, and even though the car wasn’t moving, the arrest still happened because the keys were in the car.
Shortly after the senior’s arrest, Alabama coach Nick Saban released a statement about the situation.
“This type of behavior is not acceptable and we are disappointed in Da’Shawn’s actions,” Saban said in the statement. “We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward, so better choices and decisions can be made in the future.”
Alabama opens the season against Florida State on Sept. 2 in Atlanta.
