Alabama quarterback Alec Morris will transfer to North Texas, according to a report from Brett Vito of the Denton Record-Chronicle.
The redshirt junior threw one pass in three games this season and served as the third-string quarterback behind senior Jake Coker and sophomore Cooper Bateman. Morris will stay with the program through the College Football Playoff, according to Vito.
Morris was a former 3-star recruit in the Class of 2012 from Allen, Texas, which is just 44 miles away from North Texas. He was in the mix during Alabama’s summer camp competition, but faded behind Coker and Bateman. He could fit in well with first-year head coach Seth Littrell’s pass-happy offense that he will bring to Denton, Texas from North Carolina.
The Crimson Tide could hand the keys to the offense to Bateman next season, but there could also be another crowded competition. Alabama will also have redshirt freshmen Blake Barnett and David Cornwell, and true freshman Jalen Hurts to consider for the starter’s job in 2016.
