Although De’Andre Johnson said in a now-deleted tweet that he’s planning to visit Alabama, the Crimson Tide are not recruiting the former Florida State quarterback, a source told AL.com’s John Talty.
According to Talty, Johnson, who currently attends East Mississippi Community College, will only travel to Tuscaloosa to support his young brother Tyreke Johnson (a top prospect in the 2018 class) and hometown friend Shaun Wade (an Ohio State commit in the Class of 2017).
Hypothetically, even if the Crimson Tide wished to add Johnson, that process would be incredibly difficult — if not impossible.
Last May, the SEC passed a rule that bans its programs from signing athletes who have been dismissed from other schools for “serious misconduct.” Florida State kicked Johnson off its football team in December for punching a woman at a nightclub. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and is serving six months of probation.
