Maryland has not actually spoken to Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, according to a tweet from Sports Illustrated‘s Pete Thamel.
That flies in the face of what 247Sports.com’s Jeff Ermann reported on Thursday.
“Maryland has interviewed Alabama assistant Lane Kiffin for its head coach job,” Ermann wrote after hearing from multiple sources.
Thamel tried to snuff out the rumor on Saturday:
Source: Maryland hasn't talked to Lane Kiffin and isn't expected to.

Kiffin joined Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama in 2014 after head coaching stops with the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers and USC Trojans.
His Crimson Tide “O” scored 36.9 points per game (16th-best out of 128 FBS teams) while making an appearance in the inaugural College Football Playoffs last season.
