The Najee Harris saga has taken yet another turn, making his decision possibly less clear.
The 5-star running back, currently committed to Alabama, was supposed to be flying to Alabama to enroll early after the Army Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, this weekend. That’s what fellow Crimson Tide commit Tua Tagovailoa said this week.
But 247Sports’ Barton Simmons reports Harris is actually expected to fly back home to Oakland, Calif., after the game. In addition, Harris’ high school coach said he thought Harris had to fly home before he went to school so he could pack.
His reported decision to fly home does not mean he will not end up at Alabama in the end. But it’s also not a sure thing, especially after a source told SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner that Tagovailoa “doesn’t know anything” about Harris’ travel plans.
More from Kirschner on Thursday:
So, what should we make of the leak comment and Tagovailoa saying Harris will be flying with him to Alabama on Sunday? It truly is hard to say because of how bizarre and how much of a circus this recruitment has turned into.
If there’s one thing I’ve come to know since covering Harris over the past year, it’s to expect the unexpected. Alabama will not celebrate until he shows up in Tuscaloosa.
Harris is the No. 1 overall prospect in the country for the class of 2017. He committed to the Crimson Tide in April 2015. However, he has still yet to announce a final decision between Alabama and Michigan.
He has said that he will not announce his decision at the Army Bowl, and that he will instead just show up to his school of choice.
