Texas apparently won’t take no for answer.
Should coach Charlie Strong be fired, resign or retire (take your pick this year!), the Longhorns will reportedly be making several more calls to Alabama coach Nick Saban.
“There will be another run at Mr. Saban,” CBS Sports Radio’s Brian Jones said this week. “They will break the bank. Whatever it takes.”
Texas has reportedly pursued Saban several times in the past three years, a timeline that Monty Burke of NYTimes.com revealed in detail this July.
The Longhorns’ current coach, Strong, could be on his way out the door after a second straight underwhelming season. UT is 10-13 since he took over in 2014 and appears headed for just its third losing season since 1998.
Saban has shut down Texas-related rumors many times, most recently dismissing the idea in July.
“(My agent) called me about 15 times about Texas, and every time he called I said I’m not interested in talking to them, and I never will be,” Saban told TuscaloosaNews.com‘s D.C. Reeves. “That’s the story. He did his job, I did my job.”
