Alabama currently has the fifth-best recruiting class, good for eighth in the nation, with many highly rated targets remaining on the board.
With the recruiting dead period effectively ending on Wednesday, coach Nick Saban and his staff will look to make a strong push to secure a few more verbal commitments as several targets, both committed and uncommitted, are slated to take official visits to Tuscaloosa beginning this weekend. The Crimson Tide are expected to host 17 visitors starting on Friday.
SEC Country examined the top targets below.
A.J. Brown, four-star wide receiver, Starkville, Miss. — It would appear that Brown is down to Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss, though California is still in the mix. He told SEC Country in December that he was drooling when he had a chance to meet Nick Saban in his office. Alabama’s chances to land their biggest remaining wide receiver target look promising.
Keith Gavin, four-star wide receiver, Crawfordville, Fla. — Gavin told SEC Country that Florida State is his dream school, but that isn’t stopping him from visiting Alabama. The four-star prospect said he will choose between FSU and Bama when he does make his commitment. From his conversation, it did seem like the Seminoles held the edge over the Crimson Tide. That could change this weekend if Alabama knocks his official visit out-of-the-park.
Jared Mayden, four-star cornerback, Sachse, Texas — Mayden recently de-committed from Oregon, and he’ll visit Alabama this weekend. Before committing to Oregon, Alabama was one of Mayden’s finalists. He’ll be one to monitor closely down the stretch.
Jack Jones, four-star athlete, Long Beach, Calif. — Alabama coaches are pitching Jones to be the next Cyrus Jones, and he likes what he’s hearing. The Crimson Tide staff has told Jones that he can play corner, wide receiver and be a kick/punt returner. The California native’s trip to Tuscaloosa this weekend will be his first.
Here are the other recruits that SEC Country has confirmed that will be in attendance:
Riley Cole, three-star linebacker, Oneonta, Ala. (Alabama commit)
Trevon Diggs, four-star wide receiver, Rockville, Md. (Alabama commit)
Nick Eubanks, three-star tight end, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (uncommitted, Alabama in final three along with Florida, USC)
