Terry Bradshaw didn’t hold back when talking about Nick Saban.
The four-time Super Bowl champion, now a FOX Sports NFL analyst, took part in an amazing phone debate Monday with Crimson Tide super fan Phyllis, who’s from Mulga, Ala.
As part of a wide-ranging — and absolutely incredible — “conversation” featuring the colorful personalities, Bradshaw felt compelled to needle Phyllis over Saban’s salary as Alabama’s coach.
Check out part of their conversation below.
Bradshaw: “I understand Saban, that’s your coach. What’s he making, $12 million now? That is the entire athletic budget at Louisiana Tech. The entire budget. That’s shameful! Shameful!”
Phyllis: “Shame? You think the man hasn’t earned it? You think the man hasn’t earned every single dollar he has earned at the University of Alabama?”
First off, Saban will earn $11.125 million next season. Still, we get Bradshaw’s point.
You have to love the “interesting” banter between Bradshaw and Phyllis. This was incredible radio. Kudos to both for playing each of their parts well and producing some sizable fireworks.
Is Saban’s salary shameful? Hardly. Phyllis is right. Saban has earned each dollar he has been given during his time in Tuscaloosa. If you want to blame the system for how high Saban’s salary is at the moment, that’s fine. But don’t point fingers at Saban in this case.
