The honors typically go to Alabama running back Derrick Henry, but perhaps a new year called for a new hero.
Alabama quarterback Jake Coker was named the Cotton Bowl offensive player of the game, per Christopher Walsh. Senior defensive back Cyrus Jones was picked defensive player of the game honors as the Crimson Tide rolled over Michigan State, 38-0.
Coker completed 25 of his 30 passes, throwing for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Jones had a 21-yard interception and a punt return for a touchdown.
Alabama will face No. 1 Clemson in the national title game Jan. 11 in Glendale, Ariz.
