New Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Collin Sexton is in for quite the summer.
There are two paths his future could go down. One involves Sexton running one of the most potent offenses in the NBA and attempting to get the Cavs to their fifth straight NBA Finals. The other has Sexton being the foundational piece in a rebuilding effort that could take half a decade.
It all rests on the shoulders of LeBron James and what he will do in free agency this summer.
On Thursday night, after the Cavs took Sexton with the No. 8 pick, Maria Taylor gave him the opportunity to make his case to LeBron James:
"I see you need that one extra piece this past season. Let's do it, Let's go back to the finals. Let's do it."

“Man, LeBron, let’s do it,” Sexton said. “I see you need a few pieces, that one extra piece this past season. Let’s do it; let’s go back to the Finals.”
If James does bolt, Sexton could end up leading a shell of the roster that made it to the NBA Finals this season. In that scenario, the Cavs may be incentivized to trade pieces such as Kevin Love to a contender.
Sexton’s first action with the Cavs will be in summer league, which begins on July 6.
