Former Alabama running back Derrick Henry may have been the top dog among college players in 2015, but the Heisman Trophy winner is being asked to prove himself all over again in his rookie training camp with the Tennessee Titans.
The second-round pick finds himself on a Titans roster that has been desperate to find a suitable running back since the heyday of speedster Chris Johnson, which means the opportunity is there. Unfortunately, there’s also competition in newly acquired Pro Bowl running back Demarco Murray.
So far, the record-setting Crimson Tide rusher does not seem phased by a little competition.
Titansonline.com’s Jim Wyatt reported positive signs from Henry during a Monday night scrimmage in Nashville.
Of Henry, Wyatt wrote that he “stood out for the offense. He scored on two touchdown runs, and would’ve had a third if not for a penalty. Henry turned in powerful runs up the middle, and he also bounced to the outside with some nifty footwork.”
