OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 6 Alabama and No. 3 Oklahoma were locked in a scoreless tie midway through the second inning when officials halted the game because of inclimate weather.
The delay continued for more than two hours before Women’s College World Series play was officially suspended until Friday. The Alabama-Oklahoma game will continue at 7 p.m. Friday, then will be followed by LSU vs. Michigan, which was originally scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 p.m.
Originally, winners’ bracket games had been scheduled for Friday evening, but those will now be pushed back to Saturday. Georgia and Auburn each won their opening day games earlier Thursday and were supposed to play at 7 p.m. Friday but that game will now be delayed until the same time on Saturday and followed by the Alabama/Oklahoma winner against the LSU/Michigan winner.
The Women’s College World Series had been scheduled to conclude with a best-of-three championship series played Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Now, the games that were originally scheduled to be Sunday “if-necessary” semifinal games have been pushed back to Monday.
If those games aren’t necessary, the championship series will be played as scheduled. But if at least one of them is necessary, the championship series will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
