Georgia Bulldogs fans have a new offseason storyline to rally behind after ESPN tabbed Amaris Williams, the former Auburn defensive end, as UGA’s most impactful transfer portal addition for the 2026 season.
ESPN highlighted Williams’ potential impact as part of its Way-Too-Early transfer portal breakdown for all FBS programs this offseason.
The Bulldogs brought in eight transfer portal additions during the 2026 cycle, per On3. Georgia’s portal haul wasn’t one of the largest in the country, and its class ranks No. 52 in the nation.
Georgia addressed several roster needs, but none were more important — especially on defense — than shoring up a pass rush that saw production dip in 2025. Williams recorded 14 tackles, 6 for a loss and 2.5 sacks in 2025.
Why ESPN named Williams as Georgia’s best transfer portal addition
ESPN’s Max Olson wrote that Williams could become one of the breakout stars of this portal cycle if he can translate his physical tools into consistent production on the field.
“Williams could end up being one of the breakout stars of this portal cycle if he can put it all together in Athens. The No. 88 overall recruit in the 2024 ESPN 300 played just 310 snaps over his two seasons in a rotational role at Auburn and hasn’t been as productive as the other edge players available in the portal with 20 career tackles, 12 pressures, 7.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks. But Williams has flashed the potential to become an explosive pass rusher while playing behind projected first-round pick Keldric Faulk. Now it’s time to prove he can become a reliable full-time starter and a difference-maker for the Bulldogs.”
While his two season at Auburn were largely rotational — totaling modest stats — his athletic ability and potential as an edge rusher up front were singled out as traits that could flourish under Georgia’s coaching staff.
The tape doesn’t lie. Williams is a heck of a player and could see his ceiling be tapped into for the Bulldogs in 2026.
Williams is a former 5-star recruit in the class of 2024 out of North Carolina.
