Arkansas’ top remaining target in the 2017 class won’t be going public with his commitment decision for at least another month.
Chevin Calloway, a 4-star cornerback, told reporters Tuesday at the Under Armour game check-in event in Orlando, Fla., he will make his choice known on Feb. 1 — National Signing Day.
Calloway (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) has Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas as his top three schools. He took an official visit to Ole Miss earlier this month, and will do the same at Texas (Jan. 13 or 27) and Arkansas (Jan. 20) next month.
After initially planning to commit at the Under Armour All-America Game, Calloway changed those plans due to a deep playoff run by Bishop Dunne High School (Dallas). He helped lead the school to the state title game in early December, delaying his final official visits until January. Those visits will ultimately decide where he goes.
“Those three colleges got most of my questions answered, which is why they’re my top three,” Calloway said. “Now it’s just getting down there to get a feel for the campus. Even if I have more questions, asking those, and hanging out with some of the guys and seeing what they do and everything like that. Just getting the experience and the vibe to see how I feel.”
Calloway is the No. 12 cornerback and No. 116 overall recruit in the 2017 class. He is currently leaning slightly towards Ole Miss, but simply because that’s been his only official visit among his final three.
“Honestly, I went to Ole Miss and I was like, ‘I can really see myself here,’ ” Calloway said. “But I have to take visits to the other schools before I can say anything in regards to that.”
Calloway will play in the Under Armour game on Jan. 1 at noon CT (ESPN) in Orlando.
