Arkansas AD Jeff Long doesn’t appear to harbor any ill will toward former Razorbacks head Bobby Petrino.
Petrino now coaches the 3-0 Louisville Cardinals, who are now ranked No. 3 in the country and are being talked about as a playoff contender. Long said he won’t recuse himself from discussions about Louisville when the College Football Playoff committee begins meeting later this fall.
“No, there’s no reason for me to recuse myself,” Long said, according to WholeHogSports’ Kurt Voigt. “I think Louisville is a fine football program, and they [have] demonstrated that after three weeks of the season. We’ve got six more weeks before we rank a group of teams.”
Long fired Petrino in 2012 after a motorcycle accident revealed that Petrino had hired his then-mistress as a member of the football staff. Long said he wasn’t worried about a perceived lack of objectivity on the matter.
Members of the playoff committee recuse themselves from discussions about their own schools or discussions that pose a conflict of interest.
