FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The SEC West-leading Arkansas baseball team is back at Baum Stadium for conference play.
Arkansas hosts South Carolina for three games starting Thursday night. It’s the first meeting between the two teams since 2016. The Gamecocks swept that series in a year that the Razorbacks finished last in the SEC.
Point being, that year was an outlier. Arkansas has been a powerhouse every other season, including this one. Every major college baseball poll in the country has the Diamond Hogs in the top 5 in the country. South Carolina is unranked. The Gamecocks are tied for last in the SEC East. Three of their five conference wins came in a sweep against Tennessee — the team South Carolina is tied with at the bottom.
The Razorbacks are seeking a sweep. South Carolina is the first non-elite team Arkansas has played this SEC season. The first three weekends saw Dave Van Horn’s bunch play three top 4 teams in the nation. Last weekend, a sweep against Auburn, the Tigers were ranked 15th in the country. Winning all three against the Gamecocks would provide a major opportunity to expand the division lead. Ole Miss, the team behind Arkansas by a game, plays three at 16th-ranked Vanderbilt.

Heck of a fun game scheduled for Tuesday, April 17. Missouri State and Arkansas have built a bit of a rivalry over the last three years. The two play at Baum Stadium that day. After that, back on the road for the Razorbacks. A trip to Mississippi State follows.
