Arkansas is officially in need of a new defensive coordinator, head coach Bret Bielema confirmed.
After Robb Smith indicated on Twitter that he would be leaving Arkansas to join PJ Fleck’s staff at Minnesota, Bielema released an official statement that Smith had turned in his letter of resignation.
“We have received Robb’s official letter of resignation. I would like to thank Robb for his hard work over the last three seasons and wish he and his family the best of luck,” Bielema said in the statement. “My focus is on having a strong finish to our 2017 recruiting class and completing our coaching staff.”
The Arkansas defense struggled this year as the Razorbacks gave up 39 rushing touchdowns, the most in the FBS.
The Razorbacks went 7-6 this season, as they lost in the Belk Bowl to Virginia Tech.
