ROGERS, Ark. — Arkansas coach Bret Bielema spoke to the media Monday afternoon before the Northwest Arkansas Razorback Club golf tournament. It was Bielema’s first opportunity to comment on the recent resignation of former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze.
When asked about Freeze, here’s what the Razorbacks’ head coach had to say:
“We’re all in this profession for all the right reasons. You just hate when anything can be brought to light that’s a negative. If there’s anything negative about college football, it affects all of us in the general population. Difficult situation, but I’m sure Ole Miss will champion it.”
Bielema also added he didn’t know enough about the specifics of Freeze’s situation to comment further. He said he has not spoken with Freeze since his resignation.
Arkansas won three of the five meetings with Ole Miss during Freeze’s tenure with the Rebels. The Hogs were 3-1 against Freeze during the Bielema era, having currently won three straight in the series. Arkansas’ dramatic 53-52 overtime win over Ole Miss in November 2015 cost the Rebels their first-ever SEC West title.
