FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas junior offensive lineman Frank Ragnow’s father, Jon, died Saturday, not long after the Razorbacks’ 52-10 win over Alcorn State.
Jon Ragnow died after suffering a heart attack in his Victoria, Minn., home.
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema was visibly emotional as he announced the news at his Monday news conference.
After learning the news Saturday, Frank Ragnow flew home to Minnesota to be with his family. Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema accompanied Ragnow on the flight, flying back to Fayetteville later Saturday night.
Ragnow has started all five games — four at center and one at right guard — for the Razorbacks this season. He is seen widely as one of the most important and best players on the Arkansas offense.
He started all 13 games at right guard as a sophomore last season.
Bielema said that Ragnow wants to be back with the team later this week but that his status for Saturday evening’s game against No. 1 Alabama remains unclear at this time.
He was listed Monday morning atop the updated depth chart at center. If Ragnow is unavailable against Alabama, sophomore Zach Rogers will likely start.
