Arkansas coach Bret Bielema landed two punches against LSU during his weekly press conference Monday. First was this jab.
“I’m glad the score stayed 31-14 on Saturday so somebody who didn’t watch the game knew it was a whooping,” Bielema said.
The Hogs jumped out to a 21-0 lead before LSU scored at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half to make it 21-14. Arkansas pulled away after that.
Then came the uppercut.
Bielema said he wished Arkansas would have gotten a shot to hand LSU its first loss. Instead, Alabama “whooped” the Tigers the previous week.
“That’s just the way the schedule is set up and there’s nothing we can do about that,” Bielema said. “We would have loved the first shot at them.”
Arkansas improved to 6-4 overall to become bowl eligible, and 4-2 in the SEC to move into a tie with Ole Miss and LSU behind Alabama in the SEC West. Arkansas owns the head-to-head tiebreaker against both the Rebels and Tigers.
Arkansas will host Mississippi State at 6 p.m. Saturday.
