FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Bret Bielema is clearly a pretty big fan of LSU interim head coach Ed Orgeron.
“I think he’s good for us, good for the conference,” Bielema said. “When I say ‘us,’ I just mean the profession. He’s got a lot of personality. People love him and you can see players play for him.”
The Razorbacks and Tigers meet Saturday inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Arkansas has won this rivalry game by 17 points in each of the last two seasons.
Orgeron replaced Les Miles after Miles was fired earlier this season. He is considered a strong possibility to become Miles’ permanent replacement, although that will ultimately come down to how the Tigers fare the rest of the season.
Asked if he would like to see Orgeron get the LSU head coaching gig, Bielema laughed and said, “I’m not going to actually root for LSU in that category.”
But he continued by praising Orgeron as a good fit at LSU.
“(Orgeron) said something to me … that was kind of funny but it’s the truth,” Bielema said. “He said, ‘Bret, this is … the first job I’ve been at where I haven’t had an accent.’
“All he was saying is that he fit in great there. We’ve already seen that on the recruiting trail. He’s a tremendous football mind.”
